We continue to work with the affected communities to ensure resilience against future disasters.

At least 40,000 have been left without access to shelter, food, water and other humanitarian necessities.

Disaster overview

A few months after catastrophic floods hit the coastal regions of the KwaZulu-Natal province, families are still struggling to piece their lives back together. ForAfrika and partners worked together to bring some relief to those worst affected by the disaster.

Severe flooding and landslides caused by heavy rainfall affected southern and south-eastern South Africa, particularly the Provinces of KwaZulu-Natal and Eastern Cape.

With the emergency status of the situation behind us, we are now working to reduce vulnerability and enable self-sustainability of the affected population to withstand future disasters.

While this response has now closed, funding for our emergency fund will allow us to be better prepared for the next disaster, expected to become more frequent as climate change worsens.
